The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme Explained

This scheme in the UK saves you £350 on the installation of your home charging station

You are allowed the grant twice at the same property, when for example you have two electric vehicles

Road vehicles are the main sources of carbon emissions worldwide. These vehicles are responsible for releasing 118 million tonnes of CO2 per year – 21% of the UK’s emissions total.

Just on the CO2 emissions and taking an average car which is driven 10,000 miles per year, emissions amount to around five tonnes of CO2 per year. If you compare this to planting a UK native broadleaf tree, which is estimated to take up 1 tonne of carbon dioxide during its full lifetime (approximately 100 years) (www.carbonfootprint.com) means that you would need to plant five trees each year to offset this PER CAR !

We are all worried about the price of installation,  This is where the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme is a welcome help.

This UK government programme can save you from spending extra cash in these difficult times, just when you’ve made the significant purchase of an electric vehicle. 

What is the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme?

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) is a government incentive that encourages more of the UK public to buy electric vehicles.

This offers  subsidy of up to 75% of the cost of buying and installing a home recharging station, up to £350.

To qualify for this great offer, you must be:

Planning to use the charger on one of the listed approved vehicles which currently qualify for the EVHS – make sure to check the eligible vehicles list

The vehicle’s primary owner

Able to prove you already have an eligible vehicle, or have purchased one that will be delivered within four months of the charger’s installation date

Once you have gone through this its pretty simple.

I contacted BP chargemaster initially, after 3 weeks of email and phone calls I gave up on using them and found a local company called EV Chargers UK, they came out within a few days to survey my request. They came up with a more efficient way to install the charger which would involve their electrical installation side of the company called Head-On Electrical Hull.

The first part of the installation was to install an armoured cable from the electric supply around an external wall and finish up by my garage.

The second part of the install (completed today) was to install my EO Mini Pro Type 2 this was pretty quick and easy with no need to turn off the electric supply.
