Range anxiety? EV charging sites now outnumber petrol stations

An electric car could well be your  next vehicle, by 2030 you will have no choice but to by electric.

70% of UK drivers are considering electric as their next car.

So what is stopping people? Range anxiety, caused by lack of visible chargers and lack of confidence in the UK authorities getting them installed form a big part of the resistance.

The latest data set from Zap-map shows this is mostly not the case now.

At the beginning of June there were 8,546 charging locations across the UK, which give access to 13,688 charging devices. Looking at the data correctly will show here are 8,400 petrol stations.

This is only 1.6 charging points per charging device, even a small petrol station will have 8-10 pumps so we still have a long way to go.

The Zap Map is becoming the google goto for EV charging stations,  This app shows that charging stations can now be found across most of the UK, from Lands end to kirkwall. There are however some very sparse areas, East Riding of Yorkshire and Kent to name two.

Range anxiety, this is the fear of an empty battery before your journey is complete, this is pretty rare in petrol and diesel cars. Looking at the zap map electric car drivers are pretty much covered now. The huge growth in EV chargers in the UK over the past year has been impressive, with the number of locations increasing by 57%.

Registered electric vehicles in the UK are at 210,000, this is a huge increase from just 3,500 six years ago. By 2023 this is estimated to be at least 1 million across the UK.

Zap-Map reports public and private sectors are now investing in the UK’s EV charging infrastructure to ensure that there are sufficient charging points to support the growing number of vehicles.

An all-electric era is just around the corner these vehicles offer zero-emissions and also better driving experience.
